16″ Big Sister Loom

$280.00
SKU: BL-16-S

This is our most popular Mirrix Loom. Mid-size and still portable, the Big Sister Loom is great for bead or tapestry weavers.

At 16 inches wide and weighing in at 6 pounds, the Big Sister is both bigger than her little brother and has been around longer. She was the first loom we designed! Bigger does not always mean a lot more expensive. A tapestry or bead weaving 13 inches wide and 34 inches high can be woven on this elegant, compact loom. Another great workshop or travel loom, the Big Sister stands firmly on a table. This is our most popular loom both for tapestry and bead weavers or those who do combined techniques.

    Product Description

The Big Sister is simply a more grown up version of the Little Guy. She’s got that wonderful shedding device and is great for both bead weaving and tapestry. The loom extenders work for her too. And she’s pretty darn portable. She ‘s too grown up to fit as nicely in your lap as the Little Guy. But she is one powerful piece of equipment. It’s no wonder she is hands down our most popular loom and only a little bit more expensive than her little brother. Make your choice between the two based just on size, because that is the only difference between them. Just like the Little Guy, we sell a bunch of accessories for the Big Sister.

Included: Four coils: 8, 12, 14, 18 dents, shedding device and handle, two wooden clips, warping bar, flat wrench, Allen wrench, coil bar, and written instructions.

    Stats: Weight: 8 lbs Width: 16″ Height: 13 1/2″ – 22 1/2″ Makes a piece:  13″ x 34″

    Recommended Materials and Accessories:
You don’t need anything except heddles, beads, thread, a bead mat, pair of scissors and a needle to get started with this loom.

Accessories: You need heddles to use the shedding device. You can either buy them or make your own (click the heddles tab for more information). You may want the No Warp-Ends Kit for easy bead pieces or the Bottom Spring Kit with warp coils for wider pieces. If you’re interested in making long pieces, loom extenders add two feet of weaving length to the 16″ loom. If you want some extra space between your front and back warp threads, the Add-On Bottom Beam is a great addition.
Kits: Try one of our great bead kits like the Jewel Cuff Bracelet Kit or combine beads and fiber with our fantastic Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet Kit.
Beads: Have some fun experimenting with our Mirrix Blend Bead Soup.
Fiber: Splurge on some gorgeous hand-painted silk.
Thread: We love C-Lon! Try our C-Lon Color Mixes for some variety. C-Lon Cord makes a great warp for fiber and bead combination.
Extras: If you’re interested in tapestry weaving, you’ll want a Tapestry Beater (or, use a fork).

      :

The Big Sister Loom is beloved by many, many, many Mirrix Loom owners. She is big enough for larger bead projects and perfect for tapestry weaving. Still light weight and easily transported. Fits in the large canvas tote bags. Excellent shed and works easily with the optional foot treadle. Can be used for weaving the smallest projects and larger width ones. An outstanding all round Mirrix weaving loom

This is my favorite loom for beading weaving. Big enough for almost everything i want to bead weave. I also like to use it for multiple small projects.

This loom is my favorite for traveling to workshops. It is a great size for the kinds of tapestry you do in a workshop and it JUST fits into a big suitcase. Though it seems like it would fit into a rollerboard you can take on the plane, it doesn’t (I am sure you could carry it on in a smaller bag though). This is definitely the loom I have the most of for teaching my classes. Students rent them from me warped and then end up buying them at the end of the class. As are all of Mirrix’s looms, this is a fantastic product. I can’t recommend these looms enough for their great tension, easy shedding device, and portability. I love them.

I was very disappointed that it did not come assembled. Once assembled, it still fits into the shipping box comfortably.

We have contacted Ann about this. Please note that all our looms do come assembled. The shedding device does not, however, come on the loom because the loom needs to be warped before the shedding device can be put on. Accessories like the bottom spring kit that are ordered separately also do not come on the loom. They are very easy to put on. Thank you!
