Welcome to Our New 2019 Brand Ambassadors

Welcome to Our New 2019 Brand Ambassadors

This year we have, once again, been overwhelmed by the amazing applications to our Brand Ambassador Program. Huge thanks go out to everyone who took the time to apply.

We are excited to share with you our new ambassadors, Angela Tong (@atongdesigns) and Kim Jakum (@KimJakumDesigns). Take a moment to follow them both on Instagram!

We asked Angela and Kim to share a little bit about themselves so you can get to know them a little better!

Angela Tong

My name is Angela Tong and I am a fiber arts designer living in New Jersey with my husband and two daughters. During the day, I design knitwear patterns for magazines, books and yarn companies. I also teach knitting and weaving online at Craftsy, which is now www.mybluprint.com. When I am not working on new designs or teaching, I am weaving, sewing or making pottery. I am a maker and I keep myself entertained with plenty of crafts.

I learned to weave because I answered an ad on Craigslist for a rigid heddle loom. The loom sat for many months until I signed up for classes from a weaving studio in Brooklyn. I took to weaving very quickly and continued to take classes to learn more. I find that being able to teach students how to weave is wonderfully rewarding.

So far I haven't met a loom I didn't want to try. I have been dabbling in tapestry weaving and really wanted to try a Mirrix Loom. I think it will be great for me to share my experience with learning how to weave on a Mirrix Loom. I look forward to warping and weaving on a Big Sister Loom.

I have been making jewelry for over 25 years. I started out with bead weaving and stringing. Moved on to Metal clay and traditional metal smith techniques. 2 years ago, I fell and broke both of my arms. I went through a couple of surgeries and a lot of physical therapy. During that time, I was not able to do much in the way of metal work, so I went back to bead weaving and bead embroidery. It was also when I took a bead loom work shop from Cindy Kinerson. I have limited experience in loom work, but I want very much to combine some metalwork and loom work.

I have made and still make Jewelry for TV shows (some of them. . . The
Vampire Diaries, Bones, Cedar Cove, Charmed, The Orville, Seal Team, The Young and the Restless, Jane the Virgin, This is Us). I would love to get some loomed Jewelry pieces on TV!

The reason I applied to be an ambassador is that I have had my eyes on a Mirrix loom, ever since I took the bead loom class from Cindy Kinerson. I have a lot of Jewelry maker and some wardrobe stylist followers on Instagram. I think I could be a good fit to get more people interested in Mirrix Looms!
